Sandra Vick | ART

Since I graduated from the postgraduate MFA programme at Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh, Scotland in 2008, I have been drawn to the natural world for my inspiration and working outside in the landscape, no matter what the weather.

With an iterative process of experimentation and play, my current art practice is inspired by mountainous landscapes. My overall creative vision is to capture the essence of this landscape, from its raw geological formation to the more subtle changes wrought by human activity and seasonal shifts.

I am deeply attuned to the ever-changing nature of our landscapes and am very aware of our impact on the landscape and how we need to work with rather than against it. I actively work towards a less wasteful and more ecological working practice, through experimenting with the materials that I use.

I am drawn to the moody simplified silhouettes of the hill and mountains, while simultaneously enjoying the complex and colourful textures of the foreground flora.

This year I have shown my work twice at the Royal Scottish Academy Galleries, in the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh.

In additon, one of my paintings was selected for the Visual Arts Scotland & Scottish Ornithologist Club exhibition "HOPE - is a thing with feathers" at the gallery at Waterson House, Aberlady in August-September 2024.

Two paintings were selected for part two of the Visual Arts Scotland centenary celebrations - "now&then:Dalkeith Palace (part two)" an exhibition in Dalkeith Palace, Dalkeith Country Park in August 2024.
