Over the past couple of years I've spent a lot of time in the Pentland Hill, running, walking and drawing. I've drawn them from within, upon and from afar. This on is based on the view from the roadside that many will have seen as they drive up towards Edinburgh. I love the shape of the hills against the sky, the texture of the foreground and the sense of space and freedom the hills give.
Inspired by the quiet beauty of the Pentland Hills, this painting captures the feeling of standing in open country with the wind on your face and miles of landscape unfolding ahead. The rolling hills, shifting light, and wide skies evoke the sense of freedom and calm that draws so many people back to the Pentlands time and time again. Shaped by ancient forces and worn by countless footsteps, these landscapes hold both memory and escape — a place to breathe deeply, walk slowly, and reconnect with nature. Perfect for those who feel most at home among hills, pathways, and the ever-changing Scottish sky.
