UNFRAMED PAINTING: Heading up

Over the past few years I've spent considerable time in the Pentland Hills, and this piece captures a moment while ascending a well-trodden path. The foreground texture - worn earth and stone beneath countless footsteps - contrasts beautifully against the silhouetted ridge rising beyond. Subtle greens and blues weave through the grey tones, creating depth and atmosphere. There's something both grounding and exhilarating about these open spaces. Our ancient mountains, sculpted by glaciers and time, stand as both challenge and refuge. They pull us in, inviting exploration and stillness in equal measure. This painting works beautifully in any home, bringing the quiet drama of the hills into your space without demanding attention—a gentle reminder of wild places and the paths that lead us there.
