In January 2025, I spent time drawing near Melrose, inspired by the view stretching across the fields towards the Eildon Hills. This painting captures the distinctive shape and quiet presence of the hills in a simple yet vibrant way, reflecting the beauty and atmosphere of the Borders landscape.
For those who know the Borders well — who have cycled its winding roads, walked the paths around and over the Eildons, or paused to take in the changing light across the hills — this piece will feel deeply familiar. The Eildons hold a special place in the landscape, rich with history, stories, and hidden corners that reveal themselves slowly to those who spend time there.
Through layered colour, texture, and open space, the painting evokes the freedom and connection that come from being among these hills. It is a piece for people who love the Borders landscape and want to bring a sense of its calm, beauty, and enduring character into their home.
